Chase Johnson hilariously explains his fiance’s condition post-cut

The 27-year-old golfer has been a regular at the Korn Ferry Tour since 2020. His season-opener at the Astara Chile Classic went well, where he scored thirteen-under-par for a T25 finish.

However, his second start at the ongoing Veritex Bank Championship didn’t go as planned. Following an early end to his second round, the golfer was left to wait for confirmation of his place for the weekend.

Chase Johnson’s recalls story of making the cut

In a clip that was shared by the social media handle of the Korn Ferry Tour, Johnson revealed what went through his mind knowing that he made the cut. By his own admission, an early finish on Friday with many golfers remaining left him dejected, so much so that he decided against staying on the course to see out his competition.

Back in his hotel with his fiance, Johnson didn’t look up at his phone for updates until a few hours. However, with the day’s event coming to a close, the 27-year-old found himself hanging on to the cut.

“I was like… hanging in there at T23,” he said. “And you know, one by one, someone makes a birdie… I was like, Oh gosh, come on.” However, with the last player on the 18th, Johnson’s network took a hit. “The update was slow… And I was on the phone, my fiance, Katie, and we were both like just jitters. I was shaking.”

“And then it updated and the phone glitched. And I was like, what happened? And she just screamed in the phone, she’s like. “You’re in!” Johnson claimed.

Those final moments confirmed the 27-year-old’s continued participation on the weekend. But can he go one step further in his incredible foray to win the title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
