The emotions carried by players and fans on the golf course remain unparalleled. The zeal for a victory after a tiresome week of golf is often showcased inside the ropes. But for the lower-ranked players, the euphoria of making the cut is an achievement in itself. Just ask Chase Johnson, who received a playful warning that could end his marriage after making the Korn Ferry cut.

However, his second start at the ongoing Veritex Bank Championship didn’t go as planned. Following an early end to his second round, the golfer was left to wait for confirmation of his place for the weekend.
After much nervous anticipation, Johnson eventually made the cut with his fiance, Katie, by her side. The joy of making it to the weekend was showcased by the social media team at the event, where the 27-year-old spoke of sharing the thrill with his wife-to-be, which she wasn’t very fond of, though.

“My fiance told me if I keep making this a habit, she’s going to call off the wedding because it’s too stressful… she’s joking I hope,” Johnson amusingly claimed. But was his story of making the cut as wild as he made it out to be?

Chase Johnson’s recalls story of making the cut
In a clip that was shared by the social media handle of the Korn Ferry Tour, Johnson revealed what went through his mind knowing that he made the cut. By his own admission, an early finish on Friday with many golfers remaining left him dejected, so much so that he decided against staying on the course to see out his competition.
Back in his hotel with his fiance, Johnson didn’t look up at his phone for updates until a few hours. However, with the day’s event coming to a close, the 27-year-old found himself hanging on to the cut.

“I was like… hanging in there at T23,” he said. “And you know, one by one, someone makes a birdie… I was like, Oh gosh, come on.” However, with the last player on the 18th, Johnson’s network took a hit. “The update was slow… And I was on the phone, my fiance, Katie, and we were both like just jitters. I was shaking.”
“And then it updated and the phone glitched. And I was like, what happened? And she just screamed in the phone, she’s like. “You’re in!” Johnson claimed.
