‘It was a hell of a round, Tiger’, was Nike’s response to the split news. On January 8, 2024, Tiger Woods announced that the most successful partnership in the history of sports had ended. The 48-year-old did not reveal any details but admitted there would be “another chapter.”
The golfer’s remarks about the probability of having another chapter created havoc, with fans trying to decode what he meant! However, some fans also tried to figure out what it meant for Nike! Is the brand planning to drop golf altogether from their roster?

It has been around 8 years since Nike shut down its golf equipment division. The action was taken because the golf equipment manufacturing was not turning out how the company had expected, and they wanted to shift their focus to golf apparel and shoes. But if reports are to be believed, the brand is planning to bid adieu to the golf world altogether.
Rex Hoggard, a senior writer for Golf Channel, thinks the 15-time major champion didn’t initiate the end of the deal; instead, it was Nike. He mentioned that it is Nike that is “splitting with golf.” “I looked at some of the headlines today after this news was announced, and one of them said that Nike Golf was splitting with Tiger Woods. That’s not the case at all here. What’s happening is Nike is splitting with golf, and they’re moving on,” said Hoggard. He also had some solid reasons to support his thoughts.

He further explained that last week Jason Day ended the long-time deal and found a new home at Malbon Golf, and this is not a coincidence. However, this is not the first time the apparel giant has reportedly left the golf market.
After 2016, all the golfers that Nike used to sponsor had to find new equipment deals. The five-time Masters’ winner eventually signed with TaylorMade, a leading golf equipment manufacturer, and has been using their clubs and balls ever since. If Nike moves entirely off the golf market, what option is left for the players who still wear Nike on the greens? Maybe TaylorMade?
