PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, damaged his reputation with the secret $3 billion merger that he made behind everyone’s back, but has repaired some of it after he accepted Tiger Woods as a board member. But with the merger, Monahan has also presented the defectors with a wild bunch of possibilities that weren’t there before.

Apparently thanks to the merger the PGA Tour has opened its doors for defectors even to the dislike of their own players. But the LIV golfers have made it very clear that they will not be heading back to their old tour. And it looks like this confession has hurt Monahan who is now giving his own response to the denial.

Jay Monahan’s big statement about the PGA Tour players

The merger has made no change in the attitude of LIV Golfers and the PGA Tour players towards each other. While the players have resentfully accepted the alliance, they have no desire to mingle with each other despite being a united body now. After the defectors have openly expressed their intention of not moving back, Monahan has made a strike on the situation.

Monahan is present at this week’s The Tour Championship which is the final event of the Fed Ex Championship. And while players will soon get busy trying to win the $75 million purse, Monahan has voiced why his players will never move to other tours.

While Monahan is sure that no more of his players will divert their attention to other leagues, at the same time he has also welcomed the old players to join the traditional league with the help of the ‘Player Discipline’ plan. But the defectors have clearly expressed their intention of not doing so.

Among the top names that have refused to join back their old tour are Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, among others. Recently more names have also shared the same sentiments.

LIV Defectors’ refusal to rejoin the PGA Tour

Two days ago, Richard Bland became the latest defector to reject this proposal. He has said, “As far as I know there’s not one LIV guy that wants to go back and play the tour that they came from. Speaking with DJ, Brooks and what have you, they seem very happy with where they’re at.” A few weeks before him, Phil Mickelson expressed similar views by tweeting, “What a colossal waste of time. Not a single player on LIV wants to play PGA Tour.”

Moreover, there are also reports of a fine that will be imposed by the Saudi league on any player who will head back to their old league. The amount will depend on their signing package.
