The historic Memorial Tournament worth $20 million has finally begun at Muirfield Village Golf Club at full power. The first round on Thursday saw many gofers shine, while others faced a downward spiral. Davis Riley had a good first day at the event, finishing at the top. The defending champion of the prestigious event sat in the other corner of Riley and was left weeping.
After an emotional first round, the 2022 Memorial Tournament winner could not help but break down. Fortunately, the golf world had his back, and not just the golf world; the tennis community stood by the golf world too, through its American legend, Mardy Fish!

A PGA Tour pro breaks down during a press conference
In 2022, Billy Horschel had one of the most satisfying wins of his career in Ohio. With spectacular memories from the precious year, he returned to the course with a wish to recreate the same result. But reality was far from it!
Horschel had a tough opening day. He struggled to break 80 on the course and finished in position 118 for the day. He had put a score of 12 over 72 on the board. Despite not being the only player to struggle on the course, he was extremely emotional after the round, and rightly so; after all, last year, he had dominated at the same event!
The PGA Tour posted a clip of his interview on Twitter. In it, tears could be seen rolling down his face as he broke down and opened up to the press. “My confidence is the lowest it’s been in my entire career. I think ever in my entire golf career,” he said. He further added that he was going to show up on Friday and do his best despite how sour things had been in the first round. “I’ll show up, and I’ll go out there and give it my all like I always do.”

The PGA Tour pro emotional clip soon went viral across Twitter. From golf pages to other athletes, all posted the clip and spoke of Horschel’s breakdown, empathizing with him. Not only was he showered with support from the entire golf world, but also by tennis great Mardy Fish.
Golf and tennis are the toughest sports mentally in my humble opinion. No hiding, nothing guaranteed, no timeouts, no teammates to rely on. Keep grindin Billy 👊🏽 https://t.co/yYOB8VZreM

The tennis star took to Twitter to explain that he believed golf and tennis were the toughest sports “mentally,” for they were played indivisually and didn’t have teammates or timeouts to rely on! “Keep grindin Billy,” he wrote, cheering the golfer on!

BillyHo is all class. I may not agree with some of his thoughts about LIV, but this is a fella who just wants to play good golf and isn’t afraid to let people in when it’s not going that way. Props man
