Kobe Bryant Mentoring Now Extends Beyond the NBA Realm

Kobe Bryant is an all-time great basketball player but that is not all he is. He has done amazing things after retiring especially his animation film winning Oscar or releasing his book Queen and Legacy. Mamba is a competitor and winner through and through.

In recent months, we mostly see Kobe see in Laker games teaching his daughter about the game from the front seat. He also coaches her school team and has been a huge supporter of the WNBA.

Kobe might have left basketball but basketball hasn’t left him. He is considered an inspiration and a mentor for the young and veteran NBA players alike.

Doesn’t he suit the role of a mentor perfectly?

Kobe Bryant started mentoring players even before he retired. There was a time in 2014 when Pop asked Kobe to get into it with Kawhi Leonard and he was happy to do it as he saw a lot of potential in him.

A year after his retirement he started giving out challenges to current NBA players, such as Kyrie Irving asking and Giannis Antetokounmpo to win an MVP. This action of his has helped raise completion in the league and help players get an edge to their game. Mamba Mentality has one of the lessons that he has given the youngsters.

After Giannis won his MVP, Kobe went back to his old tweet and tweeted Champion as the next challenge to him. Recently, he mentored Jayson Tatum in the offseason, after he released a Detail video detailing how he could improve his game.

“Detail” is Kobe’s ESPN series where he talks about players’ playstyle their shortcomings and things that they are great at. This has provided the fans with inner workings of basketball and let the players know the areas for them to improve. Many players have improved their games through these videos

Kobe is an athlete and he doesn’t only mentor basketball player but other athletes also.

A prime example is Tennis player Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic talking about his relationship with Kobe says that he has been one of his mentors. Kobe has played the role of mentor beautifully as he has been there for Djokovic was going through injury and struggling mentally and emotionally. He supported him throughout the period where his ranking dropped a lot and gave valuable advice. He gave the struggling the guidelines to believe and trust in himself and trusting the process that he will make a stronger return.

Kobe in an interview said “Novak’s my guy. We have a relationship. We’ve had a relationship for a long time to ESPN.
