After the much-needed All-Star break, MLB’s regular season is back in action. And so does Fernando Tatis Jr. With baseball fans hoping to see better performances from their favorite teams in the second half of the season, some are still reeling from All-Star snubs. One of the most obvious ones is San Diego Padres shortstop, Fernando Tatis Jr.

After his suspension due to drug use in his young career, fans have not taken kindly to his return. Many games see the audience booing him on the field, but he’s been taking it all like a champ. And at a recent game, he again employed one of his favorite tactics.

Fernando Tatis Jr. responds in kind to critics

The young shortstop has never shied away from clapping back to the fans or media when they troll him. When Yankee fans rudely serenaded him with the word “Steroids” at him, he answered with a home run. He has also danced to mocking chants and often does bat flips, taking it all in stride.

But at yesterday’s game, he returned to his classic move – a home run followed by a casual bat flip. The MLB put up a tweet containing the move’s video with a caption dedicated to the shortstop’s bat “flipped, turned, upside down.”

The Padres are currently paying a visit to Philadelphia for a three-game series, the first of which occurred on July 14th. At the top of the third, Tatis smashed a humongous home run, a Statcast projected 432 feet, to loud cheers at Citizens Bank Park. But what looked even cooler was how Tatis immediately made a smooth bat-throwing motion that turned into a beautiful flip.

Tatis is determined to prove he’s a good player, even without drugs. Fans may have snubbed him for the Midsummer Classic, but he will still play his best. While the Phillies ballpark may have cheered for him, MLB Twitter was not so courteous.

Baseball fans once again disparage Tatis’s past

The 24-year-old is in perhaps the most critical phase of his life – a return from suspension due to steroid use and making sure that his talent shines through despite his tainted history. While he’s been going through a good season, fans’ suspicions remain.

One fan criticized Tatis’ swing, which looks next to perfect.

Some spoke out in support and admiration as well.

Some pointed out his lack of an All-Star title this year.

Despite the constant harsh treatment, the youngster keeps on playing with a brave face each day. But will the MLB world let him forget one mistake from his youth? Only time will tell.
