“I love Rob Thomson. I was with Rob Thomson since I was 18 years old, 19 years old in the minor leagues.” Derek reminisces in a Q&A session with Steve Serby from the NY Post: “Rob’s done everything. Thomson has been one of the most—if not THE most—crucial figures behind the Yankees’ form in the ‘90s, under manager Joe Torre’s leadership. But when destiny and discipline go hand in hand, no amount of speculation can stop a legend in the making from unveiling themselves. Jeter kept on Jeterring, and the rest was history. Now, what does “The Captain” have to say about the Yankee of today?

He also said it’s never easy being a Yankee, explaining, “It’s not easy. You have to have a great team obviously to get to the postseason, I know you’ve heard me say it before, but the hottest team wins. You have to get there, you have to get hot at the right time, need a lot of breaks.”
