Shohei Ohtani loves to take the world by surprise. Firstly, he revealed that he was married, an utter shocker to the whole world, particularly due to the sudden nature of the news. Secondly, just a couple of days ago, a photo of him standing next to his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, was shared. While some finally took a breath of relief at the end of the suspense, the others took their curiosity to the next level. Well, don’t we all know what happens to the curious cat?

Relax; this does not take a dark turn. On the contrary, it is something to have a hearty laugh about. That’s what Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman have taught the world in their recent press conferences.  And as far as the press conference goes, the ever-secretive (read ‘private’) Ohtani said, “I don’t want to really get into details here”.

Dodgers Nation on X shared, “Shohei Ohtani gets asked what part of his wife he likes the most and bursts out laughing with Mookie and Freddie 🤣”. 

His response through the translator was, “I don’t wanna really get into details here, but it is her first time coming with me to a game like this, I think it is going to be really great memories for both of us”. The two-way phenom blushed all the way through his answer, contrastingly indicating that he only wanted to focus on the game ahead. What actually caught the eyes of everyone was how Freeman and Betts too burst out laughing along with Ohtani in playful wordless banter and teasing.

This “normal Japanese woman” is the lucky lady. But there is more than one reason why she is special. His wife, Mamiko Tanaka, nicknamed “Mana,” was born on December 11, 1996. But it was his Instagram story that revealed the face. Then it was just easy to connect the dots. Mana, 27, used to play basketball. From 2019 to 2023, she played center for Tokyo Seitoku University, Waseda University, and the Fujitsu Red Wave. Tanaka was even invited to try out for the national team of Japan in August 2021. Apart from this stellar sporting excellence, she is a great human being.
