The producers were looking for certain changes in the show, which involved former judge Jennifer Lopez. This evidently made Carey upset and make a move, which then led to her feud with Lopez overpowering A-Rod and Jeter.

Because of this, the show’s producers and fox channel’s executives hatched a plan to replace one of the judges. They planned to replace Mariah with her bitter rival, Jennifer Lopez. But the Songbird Supreme was not letting go easily. 

It was said that Carey, in response to her being replaced had responded with a threat of litigation. Therefore, the plan was then dropped. But the show’s producers were still in contact with Lopez negotiating with her to appear in the show’s finale. That’s where Carey took another step in her rivalry with Lopez.
