Israel Adesanya has been doing a very good job of clearing out the middleweight division. ‘The Last Style Bender’ is undefeated at 185-pounds in the UFC and successfully defended his belt for the third time at UFC 263 against a former rival in Marvin Vettori. Following the win, he called out former champion Robert Whittaker for a fight stating he would knock him out for the second time.
‘The Reaper’ was not very impressed with Adesanya’s performance at UFC 263 and shared his thoughts on the same. He said, “Watching that fight against Vettori, you can see Adesanya is not untouchable. It reinforced the fact that he’s very human. Very touchable. I actually thought his performance was average.”

The former champion continued, “Not average in the context of being bad but he never did anything more than what he had to do. He didn’t do anything flashy. He didn’t do anything more than necessary, which is a good approach. But it certainly doesn’t put you in the realm of Gods. He’s definitely not a God. He’s a very good fighter, sure but he’s not as good as he thinks he is”
Adesanya, who is currently in quarantine in New Zealand, hit back at the comments by Whittaker saying, “If I’m ‘not as good as I think I am’ what does that make you?”

Will we see Israel Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker in New Zealand?

At this point in time hosting an event in New Zealand for the UFC would be difficult given that travelers have to serve a mandatory two-week quarantine in New Zealand before they can roam around in the country. If the situation improves, the promotion would most definitely look at hosting an event there. But if the situation does not improve, Whittaker and Adesanya would be forced to fight in either Australia or in the United States.
