Jorge Masvidal Explains Why He Doesn’t Respect Nate Diaz Anymore

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz squared off in one of the most anticipated fights in the UFC in 2019. Masvidal was hot off his sensational KO of Ben Askren, and Diaz just made his return to the Octagon after three years, beating Anthony Pettis. Everything seemed to fall into place for their headlining bout in Madison Square Garden for the BMF title.
However, the fight was controversial. Masvidal was dominating Diaz through the first few rounds, which prompted the doctors to call the fight in Jorge’s favor due to a cut on Diaz’s eye. While talks for a rematch were hot, Masvidal told Ariel Helwani that he doesn’t respect Nate Diaz anymore.

“I used to have a lot of respect for Nate Diaz. But he then started doing the typical fighter stuff. I didn’t insult this individual and then he started calling me a _ on Twitter because I’m fighting for a world championship. And he’s ___, doing God knows what. I didn’t take kindly to those things.”
Masvidal added, “I’ve never quit in 50 fights. Nate Diaz has actually tapped in a fight. I have never tapped, never been knocked out. It’s just not in me to quit. I go until I have nothing left.”

Jorge Masvidal: Angling for a Nate Diaz rematch?
Jorge Masvidal talking trash to Nate Diaz before he fights for the UFC title is very interesting. He made it clear that he would rather rematch Diaz than face Leon Edwards or Colby Covington. However, Diaz is facing Edwards next and the winner will be the next title contender.
If Diaz beats Edwards and Masvidal beats Kamaru Usman, the BMF rematch could fall into place but for the main title. However, other outcomes are also likely. Usman is the favorite, so most people expect him to successfully defend. Along with that, Masvidal and Edwards have a rivalry of their own that they could move on to.

Jorge has choices atop the division, which is a great position to be in. But a Diaz fight would be the biggest financial success, so it makes sense that he is trying to drum up interest in that again.
