Conor McGregor signed for the UFC as a two-weight world champion in Cage Warriors. From day one, McGregor had it set in his mind that he wanted to replicate the same in the UFC. After an emphatic 13-second knockout win over Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor set his sights on the lightweight division.

‘The Notorious’ was scheduled to take on Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight belt at UFC 196. However, an injury forced ‘RDA’ out of the fight. Since then, the two men have never missed an opportunity to reignite an old rivalry.

A few hours back, ‘RDA’ shared a clip on Twitter with the caption, “Lets meet without security to break up the fight. See you in 2022.”

The clip showed a backstage altercation between McGregor and dos Anjos ahead of McGregor’s trilogy against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. ‘RDA’ was serving as the backup for the main event at UFC 264.

Conor McGregor to return to action against Rafael dos Anjos?

Earlier today, Conor McGregor reiterated on Twitter once again that he would be returning to action in 2022. ‘The Notorious’ is just a few months away from being able to train MMA as he recovers from a horrific injury.

Given that McGregor is unquestionably the biggest name in the sport, there are several fights that he can choose from on his return to action. The likes of Nate Diaz, Dustin Poirier, Max Holloway, among others, are all viable options.

As Nate Diaz is on the last fight of his UFC contract, the common consensus is that if Diaz has not fought by the time McGregor is ready to make his return, a trilogy would be a no-brainer.

A fight against ‘RDA’ would not be the biggest draw for McGregor as compared to some of the other names in the UFC. Therefore, although there is a bitter rivalry between the two men, it is difficult to see McGregor fighting ‘RDA’ anytime soon.
