In the test versions of the game, players had complained about the level of SBMM, even in casual matches. However, Treyarch turned a deaf ear to all these complaints. Therefore, players trying to find a way around this match-making are resorting to reverse boosting.

Is reverse boosting in Black Ops Cold War problematic?

For the unaware, ‘reverse boosting’ is a method to avoid matching against higher skilled players. One can intentionally die/suicide to fool the AI. Assuming their skill to be low due to the frequent deaths and poor performances, the game will match them against less skilled players.

Nadeshot said he came across a YouTuber who got a nuke without getting shot even once. Nadeshot didn’t mention who he was talking about, however, Surge Octane replied to his tweet claiming credit saying, “Hey bro appreciate the shoutout, make sure to like the video.”

While Nadeshot expressed his concerns about the practice, Tom Henderson, CEO of Viral Junkie, had other opinions. Tom also tweeted a while ago talking about how reverse boosting is not a new phenomena in Call of Duty games.

The practice has existed since Call of Duty multiplayer has been a thing. Therefore, those who have played CoD multiplayers are already used to reverse boosting.

Since Treyarch has made it very clear that they will not be removing SBMM, players are going to come up with such methods to avoid it. Therefore, at this point in time, one should expect it and try to get used to it.
