The notion of transparency in sports is of utmost importance. Especially in sports like NASCAR, where rules guide each and every aspect of the sport. It not only states the facts but also renders a sense of parity in the game. It was Denny Hamlin who had earlier advocated this idea.  But again, it opens a floodgate of questions and controversies. And perhaps it will open the door to the dead past. Even Dale Earnhart Jr was critical of the fact.

However, NASCAR seems to abide by popular opinions. And few NASCAR insiders gladly accept the fact.

Freddie Kraft is one such person who gladly accepts the importance of transparency. In the latest episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, co-host Freddie Kraft clearly gave his nod in the “Spot On Spot Off” segment.

A question that a fan asked was, “NASCAR displayed the part in a question from the number 3 teams, post Martinsville in the hauler for teams to view. They also posted the pictures and explanations of the violations on the social team for fans to see. Spot On or Spot Off, Freddie?”

On his part, Bubba Wallace’s spotter replied, “Spot on, you know. I will because I don’t know what I am looking at when you explain it to me, probably. Brett commented I don’t even know what I am looking at. Like, what is that? But I am sure a lot of people, they do know what exactly that is and what exactly what it does.”

He further added, “And now they are planning on a way a little bit better, so they don’t get caught. So I think that’s the takeaway from when you see this type of stuff out. Oh, that’s how they are doing now. How can I tweak that right there to make it? So I don’t get caught like they did. So it will be interesting to see how it plays out. But I think 100% spot on for NASCAR to do that to explain it.”

Freddie Kraft welcomed the move from NASCAR with open arms. But comes as a shocker for many, perhaps even Dale Earnhardt Jr. Junior thinks this initiative to be a silly move. In a recent episode of The Dale Jr. Download podcast, he said, “If you wanted to see it, you could walk up in the hauler and it’d be in there, on the counter, You could go up there and say, ‘I heard you took such-and-such. Where is it? I’d like to see it. They might show it to you, it may be laying there, they might not show it to you.”

He also opined how this rule could have a negative impact on the teams. He exclaimed, If I’mma put my owner’s hat on and I’m going to the racetrack as an Xfinity Series owner, somebody got caught with something, NASCAR took it. I don’t need to see it. I don’t have this urge to take a look at it. I’m not as curious about what they did to those louvers as the general public or the race fan is.”

Well, now the question that hovers is how teams react to it. Will it turn out to be beneficial as Denny Hamlin had suggested and protect teams from facing more arbitrary penalties or is it just a silly move? Only time holds answers to these questions.
