Unfortunately, the Bristol Dirt race seems to have been a big failure considering how empty the stands were. But it wasn’t as if there was a marketing or promotion lapse that led to the empty seats because if Bubba Wallace is to be believed, the very idea of a dirt race with stock cars racing isn’t a good one.

This was something Kyle Larson had also recently spoken about, for which he got a lot of flak from NASCAR fans. 

“I think we all really enjoy the concrete surface here at Bristol. So I think the crowd’s typically bigger, it seems like at this point now, for the concrete stuff,” the Hendrick Motorsports driver said. “I would love to get back to run two races on the concrete here.

“We don’t need to be racing on dirt.”

Wallace too had a similar thing to say along with cracking a joke about his dirt racing capabilities.

Bubba Wallace isn’t a fan of dirt racing at Bristol

During a media interaction ahead of the dirt race at Bristol, Wallace was asked if he was of the opinion of having dirt racing at all in the Cup schedule. “I don’t think so,” he said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of fun on dirt and I respect what dirt guys do, but for our sport and Cup cars, not really. I think this is all just a, to me, a gimmick.“

Wallace clarified that he isn’t “hating on dirt,” and that he loves watching the dirt races too. “I think those guys are absolute animals, they’re nuts. I told myself now, and my wife has told me, I’ll never be able to climb into a Sprint car just because of how crazy they are,” he said.

The 23XI Racing driver further added that Next Gen cars on dirt, coupled with how drivers generally race during these races, is a very “nah” kind of a thing. “It’s not a good formula,” Wallace argued.

“It may be entertaining. If that’s the case, then we’re winning, right? But as far as driving and competing, it just doesn’t feel right.”
