Jeff Andrews of Hendrick Motorsports shared his realistic insight into how long it can take for teams to get a higher horsepower package. Along with this, Kevin Harvick simply demanded more horsepower. All of this happened after Martinsville. But Dale Earnhardt Jr. is here to tell you just why, even though more horsepower could be the answer, we won’t be seeing it.

Or rather, we won’t be seeing it anytime soon.

Earnhardt Jr, while he reacted to Andrews’ comments, also gave everyone a bitter pill of reality about the prolonged period that it may take for NASCAR to actually implement something which everyone agrees upon.

Dale Earnhardt Jr reacts to Jeff Andrews ‘6 months to a year’ comments

Speaking in a recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt wondered about more horsepower and how they can get it in NASCAR.

He paraphrased Jeff Andrews’ comments as he said, “‘Well, we can get it but it’s gonna take a 6 months to a year before those parts are ready. If you ordered it, designed it, and want it right now, we wouldn’t have this, at a best case scenario, for 6 months, worst case scenario, a year.'”

“So that’s if you ordered it today.”

Junior then pointed to the added time it would take on top of the time Andrews mentioned that no one is thinking about. He said, “Hell, we have to have the conversation to get the convincing to order it. That’s another how many months?”

“To get everybody, all the collaboration that we now induced into the sport between the teams, RTA, the drivers, and the governing body, all of those people have to agree that we’re gonna have to do this and then the stuff starts to get ordered,” Junior continued.

“So we’re talking if we’re getting 900 or 700 horsepower back, that, at best case happens, in the fall of next year.”

Having said all of that, Earnhardt acknowledged the “highly disputed” nature of this subject and wondered if NASCAR can introduce some “cheap fixes” to help the short track racing. But he made sure he emphasized on just short track racing for a rather blunt admission.

“I don’t really care if this fixes the road courses because I don’t really care about the road courses anyways,” he added.
