While Sunday’s heavy downpour in and around Chicago made it even more trouble to navigate on the narrow course, NASCAR’s “bad boy” Kyle Busch‘s valiant effort despite the early setback has been reverberating in the community. While the debutant, Shane Van Gisbergen clinched Grant Park 220 after a rain-shortened race with a clinical performance, “Rowdy” top 5 finish in the sport’s first-ever street course speaks volumes for itself.

And following the epic race, the veteran of the sport, Denny Hamlin joined his co-host Jared Allen to discuss the race happenings on his super popular, Action Detrimental podcast. Though the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was thankful for NASCAR’s on-track safety precautions, his co-host Allen took the opportunity to chime in with a subtle warning for Hamlin’s former JGR teammate, Busch.

NASCAR’s inaugural Street race was a runaway hit for fans as the rain-shortened race had almost all the elements for an exciting race. From a rather anti-climatic win from a non-American to great comebacks, Grant Park 220 may just go down in history as one of the best NASCAR Cup Series races.

While the 3-time Supercars champion, Shane Van Gisbergen showed the world what he was capable of in a Cup Chevy, steamrolling his fellow Cup drivers, the community also saw an impressive run from Kyle Busch who finished the race 5th despite starting 18th.

And with the NASCAR nation actively discussing the happenings, Hamlin’s co-host, mentioning Busch’s early crash into the tire barrier, sent out a warning to the driver, saying, “The tire barriers did a heck of a job keeping these cars in one piece,” implying that without them, things could have turned disastrous.

While his friend, Hamlin pointed out how well these barriers absorbed damage, leaving the cars with little to no damage upon impact, “Are you kidding me? There was no damage to the cars,” said Hamlin.

Allen then emphasized how significant these were in helping drivers avoid unnecessary damage to their cars, he said, “I mean Kyle Busch slid 40 yards, longer than 40 yards into the tire barrier, crushed it, and gets back out and in lap 70 he’s in third place or whatever.”

While the veteran is grateful for NASCAR, providing such safety measures, Allen’s warning for KB sheds light on the significance of these safety elements on such tight and narrow tracks but also reveals Busch’s capability to take on adversity head-on.

With 2 titles and 63 wins in Cup Series, Kyle freaking Busch is undoubtedly one of the best drivers the sport has produced. As of now, the Richard Childress Racing sensation is tied with his KBM prodigy and HMS speedster, William Byron for the most number of wins this season.

While the “Rowdy” is accustomed to racing full-on on Superspeedways, road courses, and short tracks, Busch’s first-ever street race quickly went off the rails as the driver, coming into turn 6, lost control of his #8 Chevy and slammed into the tire barriers. Though he was stuck in the barrier with the weight of water bearing down on the car, he was freed by the safety team who pranced into action.

From then on, Busch unleashed his fury, filtering through the field undeterred by the early setback, at one point going as far as 3rd. Consequently, he finished the race with a splendid 5th spot, persevering through the chaotic setback while starting the race 18th and earning the praise of the whole community.

While Busch secured an impressive 5th place, his RCR teammate, Austin Dillon could not emulate his teammate’s performance as a similar setback caused #3 Chevy to be deemed out of contention, dropping down hard from the 2nd position. Whereas Hamlin who stole the pole position for the race could only manage an 11th berth.
