$400 Million Worth Dale Earnhardt Jr. Loses Priceless Memento, as Father’s Legacy Sold for a Mere $11K: But He Remains a Good Sport

It is no secret how Dale Earnhardt Sr. is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history. After his tragic death in a crash during the 2001 Daytona 500, his legacy has been carried on by his talented son Dale Earnhardt Jr. Over time, Junior has become a successful driver and businessman in his own right. However, despite his wealth and success, Dale Jr. and his sister Kelley recently missed out on a prized possession once owned by Dale Sr.

Losing Dale Sr in the fashion we did was nothing less than tragic. Imagine the pain his family must have gone through back then. However, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion certainly left behind some amazing memories. While he was the ideal mentor for Dale Jr, the 48-year-old would have loved nothing but to have his father beside him right now. In fact, Junior recently had an opportunity to get hold of one of Dale Sr’s commemorative but failed in his attempt.

In a tweet posted on May 2nd, 2023, it was reported that a fire suit once used by The Intimidator and later owned by former NASCAR Pit Reporter, Jack Arute, was sold at an auction for just over $11,000. The tweet, captioned ‘A 1983/4 circa fire suit once used by Dale Earnhardt and later owned by Jack Arute was a old at auction yesterday for just over $11K.’ showcased images of the suit.’

To this, Dale Jr replied and confirmed how he and his sister had bid on the suit but ultimately failed to secure it. However, he showed the right sporting spirit as he was glad that it was going to someone who would appreciate its historical significance.

While the 2x Daytona 500 winner did try his level best, it wasn’t enough. This certainly made the fans question how a $400 million worth Dale Earnhardt Jr could fail in outbidding others.

In fact, plenty of fans raised their doubts and even questioned the former Hendrick Motorsports driver’s intent.

The revelation sparked a wave of reactions from fans, with many expressing surprise that Dale Jr, a man with a tremendous amount of financial strength failed in his attempt. Some fans even questioned why he did not simply outbid everyone else to secure the suit.

While one fan commented, “Couldn’t afford 11k?” another fan added, “How does Jr get out bid?🤔”  

On the other hand, one fan speculated, Blows my mind that Dale Jr has big money but still doesn’t just outbid these people. #responsibility” 

In response to the rising questions, Dale Jr. explained that he and his sister had indeed tried to acquire the fire suit but had not bid high enough to secure it. He said, “We tried. But didn’t bid high enough. I’ve spent years trying to get all the pieces of history I can but at some point you have your limits on how much (money) you’re willing to put into that effort.”

To this, one fan suggested that Dale Jr’s frugality might be due to a desire to give others a chance to own a piece of NASCAR history. However, Junior had a reply to this too.

Regardless of their failure this time around, it’s clear that Dale Earnhardt Jr and Kelley’s commitment to preserving his legacy remains strong. And while Junior may not own every piece of his father’s racing history, he has already amassed an impressive collection that will undoubtedly continue to grow over time.
