KBM, owned by Kyle Busch, has been at the forefront of the truck series, fielding two full-time Chevrolet Silverados: the No. 4 and the No. 51. Recently, the team announced on Twitter that they will be adding a legendary driver to pilot the No. 51, much to the excitement of the owner.

Chase Purdy has reserved the #5, while KBM has three options for the #51. The truck is occasionally driven by the team owner, Kyle Busch himself.

KBM Owner Kyle Busch Unveils New Driver Taking the Wheel

KBM recently signed HMS’ Cup Series driver William Byron for a limited stint of just three races. The Cup Series winner piloted KBM’s #51 truck at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 8, finishing in an impressive third place while Joey Logano took the victory. Byron is now set to race again at Darlington Raceway on May 12 and will conclude his brief tenure at North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 20.

The team, in one of their Twitter posts, announcing their two drivers, wrote, “We’ve got a Friday night date under the lights with “The Lady in Black!”

William was quite excited about the opportunity when he heard about it two months ago. As per a statement released by his team, he said, “I am so excited to return to racing with KBM.”

“I’m looking forward to getting back in their trucks and hopefully having some fun for these three races. These are three cool race tracks we’ve paired up for, and I’m interested in running at them since I haven’t raced there in a truck before.”

The owner hopes Byron’s arrival will benefit the team and believes he can win, as he has proven before.

In 2016, William Byron drove for KBM and earned the title of Sunoco Rookie of the Year, along with an impressive seven wins that season. He went on to capture the Xfinity Series championship and Rookie of the Year honors in 2017 while driving for JR Motorsports.

As quoted by NASCAR.com Kyle Busch, after signing the Hendrick Motorsports driver for #51, said, “Having William return to KBM for three races is going to be beneficial for our whole organization as we continue to build our notebook as a Chevrolet team.”

“You expect that he’ll compete for the win each time out, he’ll provide valuable feedback to Brian Pattie and our other crew chiefs and when it comes to the development drivers that we’ve had come through KBM, his race preparation is second to none, so he’ll be a valuable asset as a teammate to the young drivers we have in the building.”
