NASCAR often sees rivalries and confrontations between drivers that keep fans at the edge of their seats. One such incident that grabbed headlines occurred in 2021 when Denny Hamlin and Alex Bowman had a dramatic altercation during Martinsville‘s fall race, leading Hamlin to brand Bowman as “a hack.” But fast forward to the present, and the tables have turned.

In NASCAR, what goes around often comes around, and this time, it was Denny Hamlin who found himself on the receiving end of a “hack” and “d*ck” label, courtesy of none other than Ryan Blaney.

Ryan Blaney admits that things went a little too far with his comments on Denny Hamlin

Sunday’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway was a high-stakes affair, with significant playoff implications for both Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney. The on-track duel between the two drivers was nothing short of spectacular, and it didn’t take long for controversy to brew.

However, recently, Ryan Blaney provided some much-needed context to his post-race comments. Blaney acknowledged that his choice of words might have been too harsh, given the intense nature of NASCAR racing. He revealed, “I feel like that got blown out of proportion personally. It was a half-joke anyway. I don’t mean to say it; it’s intense stuff. And then he and I were racing hard, you know. I probably said stuff on the radio that was just kind of in-the-moment stuff. But, at the end of the day, we’re racing hard. Did I feel a little crowded? Yeah. But when you look at it, it’s just two guys running real hard. Hey, you guys have been saying for a while, I am too nice. So, and I did say a couple of years ago, if I stopped being nice, I don’t wanna hear about it.”

What stood out was a particular incident where Hamlin, in Blaney’s view, used his car as a crutch. Blaney was candid about his feelings, emphasizing the importance of commitment when making such moves. He asserted, “If you’re going to slide somebody, slide somebody and commit. Don’t halfway do it and use me up. What did he say? ‘Hack.’ I think he was that today.”

In response to Blaney’s bold claim of being a “hack,” Denny Hamlin didn’t hold back either. He firmly defended his racing style and pointed out the context of the situation, where the pursuit of playoff points and championship contention is a paramount concern. It was clear that Hamlin’s intentions were rooted in strategic competition, driven by the ultimate goal of securing a championship.
