Junior recently spoke in detail about Elliott’s injury on his podcast, The Dale Jr Download, He explained his thought process when it comes to situations like these.

He said, “If I get injured and I’m out you know for a substantial period of time or I do something to myself that might force my employer to question my ability going forward right? You know you go out there and suffer a concussion you know that unfortunately has a bit of stigma tied to it and so those are the things that I worried about.

Dale Jr. further added to what may matter to other drivers. He said, “There are other things bigger than you worry about…maybe some drivers are very you know, hey man I can’t do this or won’t do this, I’m worried about the points, I’m worried about the playoffs, I’m worried about the championship.”

But that was not Dale’s top-most priority. The 48-year-old said, “I thought larger like I’m worried about how my employer feels.”

“It’s more like what do you think what does my employer think, what my advisors think, it’s really all about how they feel about this.”

“And if something did happen, how would you feel, you gauge the room, you read the room and that would help make your decision.” It certainly makes sense from Junior’s perspective and is probably the reason he followed up with some strong statements.
