Jenson Button Confesses Mixed Feelings About His New Racing “Challenge” While Shedding Light on NASCAR’s Distinctiveness to F1

The NASCAR fraternity is getting bigger and better, with many renowned racing drivers expressing their interest in driving a stock car. After the recent news about Kimi Raikkonen and Jordan Taylor’s participation in the upcoming Cup Series race in COTA, 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button also recently confirmed that he will be making his NASCAR Cup Series debut. An enthusiastic Jenson Button claimed to be up for the NASCAR challenge as he laid out some critical differences between a stock car and an F1 car.

Jenson will be driving a car fielded by Rick Ware Racing in association with Stewart-Haas Racing. Jenson Button broke the news during his recent appearance on the NASCAR Race Hub show. During the discussions, one of the co-hosts revealed that Button had a “special” NASCAR-related news to announce.

In the recent edition of the NASCAR Race Hub show, Jenson Button responded to the co-host’s statement with a joke. He said, “Yeah, it sounds like I’m having a child or something.” Moreover, Button also expressed his thoughts on his new racing adventure. The F1 veteran said, “I’m excited and very nervous at the same time.” He will be racing three Cup Series races in 2023, namely, Circuit of The Americas, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

The 43-year-old reckoned that NASCAR was quite different from his previous racing experiences. Moreover, Button stated, “Getting into a Cup car and a stock car and it’s really difficult. It’s so different, you don’t get much practice either. But, you know, I’m up for a challenge.”

Further, Button stated that he had a great deal of respect for his rival NASCAR drivers and teams. He said that it was stunning to see the amount of research the teams put in to stay competitive on the track. Meanwhile, Button was enthusiastic about getting to drive a Stewart-Haas car and listed some differences between a stock car and an F1 car.

Jenson Button revealed that he and his team were working to get the stock car’s seat in a position that would be more comfortable for him to drive. Button pointed out that an F1 driver has to essentially lie down to drive an F1 car, which is not the case in stock cars.

The former F1 driver said, “I’m not so used to sitting. I’m lying down. Suddenly you’re upright with the steering wheel here (points to the waist). So. we’ve been adjusting it here and there to get into a position I like, so I’m comfortable.” Moreover, Button told that he is keeping a close eye on the drivers and their driving styles given the physical nature of NASCAR racing.
