There are several physical demands of being a NASCAR driver. From the long driving hours, to continuously being under pressure. Injuries and fatigue can often times creep in on these athletes often. Ahead of the race at Circuit of The Americas, the Richard Childress Racing driver, Kyle Busch, found himself with blisters on his hands.

Soon after, he was interviewed and asked how did the blister occur. Busch answered the question as comically as possible, whilst maintaining a straight face. However, he did manage to throw shade at the Next-Gen Car in his brief statement.

Talking about the blister on his hand, Busch mentioned, “My hands are too soft and girly, for the Cup car shifters that it’s not good for the H pattern anymore.”

They use H-pattern shifters in the Truck Series vehicles. Meanwhile, in the Cup Series, they use sequential shifters. Hence, the blisters that appeared on his hand could have been the result of the Truck Series race he had just participated in. Perhaps the lack of practice in using H-pattern shifters could have also played a part.

Busch decided to participate in the Truck Series race ahead of the Cup Series event. Many would have imagined for a driver of his stature, he would have breezed past the grid and taken home the chequered. However, things did not pan out that easily for him after all.

Reigning Truck Series champion Zane Smith battled Busch and took home the chequered, leaving the two-time Cup Series champion in the dust. Despite finishing in second place, Busch still has the main Cup Series race coming up in a couple of hours. However, with a blister on his hand, racing might get a bit painful for Rowdy.

This Cup Series race at COTA already looks like it would be fairly decent. There are quite a few former Formula 1 drivers also gracing the field for this race. However, they should not be much of a problem for the seasoned NASCAR veteran. Now the looming question up ahead is if Busch would be able to secure a road course victory this year or not. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments.
