“Like Your Dad” – Ex-NASCAR CEO Tells Dale Earnhardt Jr. The “Big Deal” Missing in Modern Day Drivers

Dale Earnhardt Sr. was an icon of NASCAR and we could always feel his omnipresence across the sport. ‘The Intimidator’ had a persona and character like no other. However, former NASCAR boss Brian France reveals the reason behind new-age drivers’ inability to replicate the personality displayed by the revered Dale Earnhardt Sr.

France stated, “There are moments in time when you look back at any part of our sport. Where they’re just big reflection points, you know, people that had, like obviously, like your dad, who led the way, but who had magical moments, you know, with us. It did something extraordinary that people go. That changes things. That’s a big deal. You know, seven Championships and the way that your dad did that.”

“You know the Intimidator and that you know that he could go anywhere, he could go to the National Press Club in Washington and pull it off and then get on his tractor and be just as comfortable. And he didn’t care what everybody thought all the time, like, you know, like drivers I think today have more of that situation so that we were just lucky that happened for us as a sport, that kind of thing.“

Why was Dale Earnhardt Sr called the Intimidator?

Earnhardt Sr. had a personality that would make other drivers tremble in his presence. Drivers from his time would often say how they felt intimidated just standing next to him.

No opponent on the track ever scared Earnhardt. Plus, his never-ending grin and overwhelming presence towered over everyone around him. However, the main reason behind how he got his nickname came after the famed “pass in the grass” incident, where he spun Bill Elliott around during the closing stages of the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Even his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr mentioned how he and his sister always tried their best to keep him happy. They did so, so they could get his approval over things.
