The 23XI team seems to be taking a pit stop from motorsports to dive into the NFL frenzy. First off, we caught Bubba Wallace having a blast with his wife at the Tennessee-Georgia football game. He even flaunted a snapshot of his camper van parked outside Neyland Stadium, preparing for a fantastic day. Now, flipping through the Instagram story of Denny Hamlin, it looks like he’s soaking up the NFL season vibes with his buddy Charlie Wend.
But when Wend’s beloved Ohio State football team faced defeat, Denny Hamlin, in true best friend fashion, didn’t offer a shoulder to cry on. Instead, he chose to rib him a bit. Although Charlie Wend kept Mom in front of the camera, his face was a canvas of disappointment, trying to swallow the bitter pill of loss.

For NASCAR drivers, keeping up with the NFL during the racing season is like trying to catch a greased pig. But once the off-season hits, they’re all about football, whether it’s glued to the TV or cheering from the stands. This time around, Denny Hamlin and his buddy Charlie Wend were all in for the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Michigan Wolverines game, which left Wend nursing a broken heart after Ohio’s defeat.
Hamlin took to Instagram to showcase Wend’s blues. One story was set to the tune of “R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts,” with a video of Wend’s gloom. In a second story, Hamlin, with his signature playful sarcasm, jabbed at Wend, “So, you are no longer a Football school huh?” Wend, not keen on being on camera, replied, “I am not talking in front of the camera.” But Hamlin wasn’t done yet. He landed another zinger while laughing: “You are a women’s college basketball team now?”
Not to mention, the game that plunged Wend into despair was a nail-biter. The No. 3 Wolverines clinched a spot in the 2023 Big Ten Championship Game, keeping their College Football Playoff dreams alive. It was a pivotal match in the rivalry, especially with the Big Ten ditching its divisional format in 2024.
Michigan’s late field goal nudged them ahead 30-24 with just 1:05 left. Ohio State, out of timeouts, needed a touchdown to snatch victory. Buckeyes’ quarterback Kyle McCord hurled two deep passes, edging closer to a win, but the Wolverines’ defense was unyielding. Michigan’s Rod Moore intercepted a desperate throw by McCord, sealing the deal. The interception echoed the game’s start, where another McCord mishap handed Michigan an early lead, which they never relinquished, despite Ohio tying it up in the third quarter.

Dale Earnhardt Jr has been a fixture in the NBC Sports booth for a while now, and fans can’t get enough of his commentary during races. He’s got the gift of gab, likely honed from his podcasting days, knowing just what to say and when to say it. However, this year, the spotlight shifts as Kevin Harvick, fresh from hanging up his racing gloves, is set to join Fox Sports. Fox has been under fire recently for missing key moments, ill-timed ads, and camera mishaps.

Denny Hamlin, however, sees a silver lining. He believes Harvick could be the secret sauce Fox needs. “I tell you, he could really improve that FOX booth a tonne. I think he will push them to be better from what we’ve seen, NBC, the Fox, the big variation in the production that the two have. And how much one is really into the nuts and bolts and explain everything, whereas the other is just kind of talking about some stuff. It’s just like there’s a lot to be gained there in the Fox booth and I think that Kevin will push everyone to do that and be better,” he said.
Hamlin continued, “So, I’m excited to see how that turns out for sure. You got a great base there. And so I think that there’s there’s going to be something good that’s really going to happen from that.”
