In a pre-race interview at the Bristol Speedway, Busch expressed his frustration, stating that NASCAR’s rule book contradicts itself quite often, making it difficult for drivers to understand what can attract a penalty or fine.

He said, “At the Clash, how come Joey Logano wasn’t penalized for wiping me out? You know what I mean, like every chance somebody crashes from somebody else from car contact it could be a penalty, it could be a fine, it can be whatever so.

“The rule book contradicts itself quite a lot.”

Busch also highlighted the frustration that many drivers feel when it comes to NASCAR’s rule enforcement. While rules are necessary to ensure safety on the track and promote fair play, inconsistent enforcement can create confusion and frustration for drivers and fans alike.

Another recent controversy in NASCAR involves Denny Hamlin, who was penalized for a casual confession made on a podcast. Hamlin appealed the penalty but to no avail. Busch expressed his thoughts on the decision and said, “I’m actually kind of surprised on the whole Denny deal. […] He did a really good job of explaining it. I listened to his podcast of this week and I mean, I’ve been through some of these appeals, and you think you’ve done a good job selling your case, and they actually kind of back down on the other side.

“So you think you’ve got a really good shot of getting something reversed or overturned, and then it just completely sideswipes you.’ 

Many fans and drivers, including Busch, were surprised by the penalty, arguing that the rulebook is unclear and that the penalty may have been unjustified. Busch pointed out that there have been many instances in the past where drivers have intentionally crashed into one another, and no penalties were issued.
