Tony Stewart is one of the most adventurous personalities in motorsports. His curious and adventurous approach has helped him earn success throughout his career. The 1997 Indycar Series winner continues to be actively involved in the sport, more as an owner and less as a driver these days. He recently shared an event involving his wife Leah Pruett, which took him by surprise.

Leah has been a drag racer for a decade now. Their passion and love for motorsports brought her and Tony Stewart together. The couple got married in November 2021. Since then, they have been working together for Tony Stewart Racing. That being said, Leah was guilty of something during the early days of their relationship.

It is certainly not an easy shift from driving a stock car to a dragster. Yet, Tony Stewart has fondly grown in love with drag racing. Speaking on The Dan LeBatard Show, the 51-year-old expressively spoke on his experience in the drag-racing world so far. He said, “I think over the 40+ years that I have been driving race cars, you can pretty much bundle everything together in Motorsports until I got to the NHRA world and it is on its own. It is like being on Fantasy Island. It’s way off center from the rest of motorsports.”

The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion then shed some light on his first interaction with the sport. He said, “I remember when I started dating Leah [Pruett] and I went to her first event. I remember standing in the starting line behind her car. When she hit the gas the first time, I remember literally physically feeling the insides of my body moving and there was nothing I have done in my entire life let alone Motorsports that made that happen.”

“And I said what was that she goes yeah I forgot to tell you about that part. And it literally made me carsick, and I was standing on the ground. That’s the concussion from 11,000 horsepower, so I fell in love with it at that moment and the more I was with Leah, the more I enjoyed the sport around it.”

The Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner recently spoke regarding both the races on the LeBatard show, “Now having the opportunity I’ve driven our Top Fuel cars 16 times but I’m competing in the Top Alcohol dragster division this year which is way slower than what she’s [Leah] running. I’m only running 280 miles an hour, she’s running 330 miles an hour in her car.”

“So I get a little slower experience but it’s still way faster than anything that I’ve ever driven in my entire life and with way more horsepower.”
