Anthony Davis led the LeBron-less Lakers to a win against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs hoped that without James, they would be able to break their losing streak. And they almost succeeded, scoring 45 points in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately for them, AD ensured the team wouldn’t face a loss for the lack of LeBron. Talking about going against the “generational talent”, Wembanyama, Davis didn’t seem too hyped about the Frenchman.

However, the Lakers‘ big man had more to say about the brilliant game by Wembanyama after dismissing the threat that he posed. He listed off his stats one by one, even going as far as to mention his highlight reels and dunks. But Davis also brought attention to an important point: the pressure that is on the young star’s shoulders.
There is no doubt that it is an insane amount. No rookie should be subjected to that kind of pressure. Just another similarity to the legendary LeBron James. Carrying hopes and dreams of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wembanyama is practically just a taller LeBron, from France.
But Anthony Davis already gave his two cents to Wemby before their matchup.
Davis’ advice to the ‘Alien’ Wembanyama
A day before the highly anticipated matchup, AD was asked about the level of expectations placed on the young 7’4 center. His only advice was to “not focus on outside pressure“. It’s easy to get lost among the swarming opinions from the outside world. And Davis should know what he’s talking about.

Davis had a few more pointers for the “generational talent.” “You just got to go in and play, find your way… don’t stress yourself over the pressure from everyone else,” he pointed out. “You got to know what your team wants from you and don’t think that you have to turn a franchise around your first year… just slow roll it, take your time and each year, each game just get better and better.”
Wemby will definitely benefit from this advice. So far, it looks like he is doing a great job turning a deaf ear to the outside noise. Tied in the NBA for the lead in blocks (2.8 per game), Wemby also ranks in the top 10 in rebounds per game (10.7). Victor also tops the franchise this season for most points per game at 19.3.

There is no doubt that the sky is the limit for Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. All they have to do is ensure Wemby has a solid support cast around him and ensure he doesn’t fall down the rabbit hole of outside opinion.
