In a recent interaction with a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Kevin Durant publicly voiced his opinion about comparing different eras of NBA basketball. An X user by the name of Samuel Travino asked KD “how do you think you would do if you played in the 90s than now? Still the same, better or worse? Just wanna get your thoughts.” To which Durant surprisingly responded by saying, “This is a pointless exercise.”

Kevin Durant is right to dismiss such questions because his answers could be taken out of context, which could spiral into a media storm. KD’s main focus remains to finish the season on a strong note with the Phoenix Suns and repay the trust and support shown by the Suns’ fanbase. The Suns currently occupy the 8th spot in the Western Conference standings, having won 21 games and losing another 18 games.

The Phoenix Suns have had an underwhelming season so far. Despite the recent upturn in performances, the Suns still do not look like a side capable of winning the NBA title. They made a statement this offseason by acquiring Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards. However, recurring back and ankle injuries have limited his playing time. Nevertheless, following Beal’s comeback on 29th December, the Suns have secured victories in six games and experienced only three losses. With Beal back fit and in the starting lineup, can the Suns win the coveted Larry O’Brien trophy this season?

In their illustrious 56-year history, the Phoenix Suns have never managed to clinch the NBA title. They hold the dubious record of the oldest team not to win an NBA title. However, new owner Mat Ishiba has poured millions of his own money into the franchise so that the Suns can finally end their title drought.

Due to Ishiba’s immense financial resources, the Suns have built one of the costliest teams in the current NBA. In fact, the Suns have the third-highest payroll in the league, totaling $188,965,259. However, a significant portion of their total payroll is allocated to Durant, Booker, and Beal, which has resulted in a very top-heavy roster composition. The Suns’ lack of quality rotation options becomes even more evident when one of the “big three” is injured.

While the Suns do possess the firepower to overwhelm any opposition, they lack the defensive cohesion that is a must for any title-challenging side. At the moment, a title win looks extremely unlikely. But it might be a little premature to write off a team consisting of the likes of KD, Booker, and Beal. Only time will tell whether the Suns have what it takes to become an NBA champion.
