This season, Draymond Green has been ejected three times and suspended twice due to a series of behavioral issues on the court. The most recent suspension was a result of swinging his hand at the Suns‘ center Jusuf Nurkic, knocking him to the ground. This happened on the 12th of December last year during the Warriors‘ 119-116 loss to the Suns. The next day, DrayMagic was given an indefinite suspension by the league.

The aftermath of this ordeal revealed a soft side of Dray and Warriors’ HC Steve Kerr, as Draymond shares a heartwarming moment between him and Coach Kerr in a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show.

Following the announcement of his suspension, Draymond admits that he went into a deep slump where he locked himself in his “man cave“. He was overcome with guilt and felt terrible for letting his people down. It was during this time, on 14th December that Coach Kerr showed up at his home, and as Dray recalls, “We sat in the yard, he cried, I cried because there is a bond there that seen it all. Seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows.”

During this heartwarming moment, Coach Kerr’s only advice to Draymond was to end this situation the right way. The 4X NBA Champion remembers Kerr telling him, “I want you to end this the right way. I want us to end this the right way. And you’re not doing that right now.” In doing so, Kerr advised him to take whatever necessary steps to put himself in a position where he could right his wrongs. Amidst all this chaos, Coach Kerr was proud of Dray, for one thing.

Kudos to Draymond Green for taking accountability

The same day, Kerr told DrayMagic that he was proud of him for taking accountability and apologizing during the press conference without attempting to defend his behavior. “I was happy, I was proud of you. It was so much better than your other ones,” he told Dray. Draymond was reinstated into the team after missing 12 games as was evident on Sunday when he showed up with the rest of his teammates in their walkthrough and watched the Warriors’ game vs the Raptors from the bench.
