The Portland Trail Blazers will be just fine in their post-Damian Lillard era. It was only a preseason game, yet it was enough for the trained eyes to see the prodigy who had stepped in for the Blazers. If he can go toe to toe with the likes of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker on his first day on the job, we cannot even imagine what is in store for this port city.

Like Scoot Henderson said in his pre-game meetings, he was not “Starstruck” at all. And one legend of the game took notice of it and is leading the line in welcoming this superstar in the making.

Jamal Crawford was one player who need not have retired at all. His crossover moves were legendary, and he was a perennial contender for the Sixth Man of the Year Award, which he has won multiple times. Scoot Henderson had played 31 minutes in his preseason debut and has scored 22 points while making 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. This stat line reeks of superstardom. And to top it all, Scoot has a silky-smooth jumper, he can shoot threes without a qualm, while forcing the opponents to guard him from the arch.

The Future of Portland is here

It is not a tall claim if Portland becomes a Scoot Henderson city in no time. Yes, Damian Lillard was the mainstay for over 11 years, but this teenager can make it his own. And by the look of things, he is the replacement for Dame D.O.L.L.A.

Chauncey Billups has a big shot now, and his basketball genius will already be conjuring up designs for this young star and the team. What more he would want to create a legitimate shot for the Blazers to be a genuine contender? The answer would be a good veteran leadership to mentor his young squad on and off the court. Let’s hope that the front office finds some true leaders for Portland.
