The Golden State Warriors couldn’t possibly go any lower than the 12th position they occupy now. With a 19-24 record, below .500, and on a two-game losing streak, the Dubs are in need of serious help. And with less than 10 days left for the trade deadline to close, they might have to take a decision sooner rather than later.

Considering how they already let it slide that everyone on the roster except Stephen Curry is on the trade market, the top trade prospect was Andrew Wiggins. Throw in veteran Chris Paul into the mix and they should be able to get a fair return. But what is the likelihood of that happening?

Will the Dubs let go of Chris Paul after getting him this offseason?

The CP3- Jordan Poole trade made waves during the trade season. Initially berated for trading a young, explosive guard for a veteran, the Warriors’ decision seemed to be wise further down the road. Although the 12x All-Star isn’t putting up the numbers they had hoped he would, Paul has been quite efficient in leading the bench unit. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, it seems like the ‘Point God’ is safe, for now.

The main incentive being his non-guarantee $30 million next season. “If a trade opportunity arises in June or even early July, assuming Paul is in on the conversation, it could be a tool to the Warriors in the offseason, when more players and avenues are open,” Slater affirms.

As mentioned above, the 2013 All-Star Game MVP has been great with the second unit. The young Warriors benefit from a veteran player like Chris. And Paul also gets more ball time as opposed to being on the floor with the starting five. Also, his +27 without Steph on-court is crucial moving forward.

What about Andrew Wiggins, though?

Can Wiggins make a case for himself ahead of the deadline?

The most likely card to be dealt on the Dubs’ roster this season – Andrew Wiggins. He has been nothing short of remarkable during their 2022 championship race. Posting consistent numbers in the regular season while proving himself to be a reliable two-way wing in the playoffs, the Dubs were sure of a similar production this season.

Unfortunately, Wiggs has been struggling. And that’s just a mild way to put it. Yet, he has been on an uphill graph recently. While he hasn’t given a reason for the Dubs to put all their eggs in his basket, GSW hasn’t made an active run to get him traded either.

And they might not have to. Their record tax bill can be navigated via other expiring contracts. They can use Wiggins in the summer when his trade value should be much better than what it is now. Of course, if he is still in trade talks, that is.
