The Houston Rockets took on the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night for the first time this 2023-24 season. Both the teams previously had three wins and were looking to add another one to their name. The Rockets were successful in the mission as they trumped the Lakers for a 128-94 win.

Jalen Green was the star of the night as he scored 28 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Alperen Sengun set the tone for success as he made a two-point shot one minute into the game. From then onwards, the Rockets continued to stack point after point as the Lakers tried desperately to catch up to them before settling for the loss.

If there is one thing that Dillon Brooks is known for, it is his well-recorded history of trash-talking and antagonizing his opponents on and off-court. While he has rarely been successful in these attempts, he fulfilled the promise he made before the match regarding LeBron James. In the first half of the first quarter, Dillon Brooks, while guarding LeBron James, managed to pressure him into turning the ball over via it going out of bounds.

This was something that Dillon promised to do. During his pre-match talk with reporters, the forward explained the approach he was going to take against LeBron. He said he is “ready to lock him up” while adding, “He’s shooting the ball well. He’s been playing well. So I’m just there to make him tired, make him get into that fourth quarter early.” Many were doubtful if he would deliver on this considering his history of downplaying LeBron and it coming back to bite him later on. But it seems like just this time, Brooks was determined to keep his word.

Brooks played for the Memphis Grizzlies last year. During the playoff series, he constantly kept taunting the veteran, first calling him old, then claiming he didn’t respect anyone till they scored 40 points while he was guarding them. Then, during Game 3 he struck LeBron James in the groin and got ejected.

This continuous antagonistic behavior of his caused the Grizzlies to drop him during this summer. He then signed a $80 million deal with the Rockets. But it looks like he is yet to learn his lesson. While he may have gotten away with it this time, we do not know if he would the next time as well.
