The Minnesota Timberwolves became the last team to endure back-to-back defeats in the ongoing 2023-24 season. Emerging as the season’s biggest surprise, they have commanded the top spot in the Western Conference for the longest time. Despite Anthony Edwards dropping an impressive 35 points, the Wolves found themselves overpowered by Zion Williamson. This led to a challenging second quarter, trailing 32-22, and a tough third quarter, falling behind 33-25. Consequently, they entered the fourth quarter with a double-digit deficit.

The Wolves have now suffered their second home loss out of 16 games. The regular season presents a mix of triumphs and challenges for every team, compelling them to forge stronger bonds. For a youthful team, navigating these waves is a novel experience, and the effects of it are already surfacing.

Despite the recent setback, the Timberwolves maintain their spot as the top team in the West. They hold a record of 24-9. However, per insights from Dane Moore, the authoritative voice on all things Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards expressed dissatisfaction with his team. In a recent post, he quoted Edwards saying, “We gotta figure it out. We s**k right now,” addressing their recent performance.

Apart from Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jaden McDaniels touched double-digit scores, 22 and 11 points, respectively. However, the Pelicans showcased superior efficiency across the game, excelling in field goals, three-pointers, and free throws. Additionally, they also dominated the rebounding battle, finishing at 41-28.

Commenting on Zion Williamson‘s standout performance, Edwards stated, “They came in and kicked us tonight.” Edwards’ comments definitely came from a first-hand experience since he was initially tasked with guarding the 2019 first pick, despite the size difference between the two stars. However, the responsibility was later handed over to Kyle Anderson from Anthony Edwards.

The 40% of the 2023-24 regular season is in the books. So far, the Wolves boast the top-rated defense in the league. Behind that, they won their first two matchups against the New Orleans Pelicans. However, it is crucial to note that those games did not feature Zion Williamson. Their recent 2 losses against the Pelicans indicate his significant impact in later matchups.
