One of the biggest issues in the basketball world currently is the WNBA salaries. Top players like Griner, Diana Taurasi, and others regularly play the WNBA off-season overseas in order to make a decent salary.

Griner was in Russia in order to join her teammates at UMMC Ekaterinburg. She has played for the team for quite some time and is paid handsomely in Russia. As history goes, she would be detained by officials in an airport which started the whole issue.
