Mavs Legend Dirk Nowitzki Shockingly Credits Fortune and Not Ability for Historic Finals Win Over LeBron James’ Heat

Considered one of the greatest players in the NBA, Dirk Nowitzki talked about his playoffs losses and victories in a recent interview. Shockingly enough, the 2011 NBA champion credits luck and fortune for the win over LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

 

Dirk played for the Dallas Mavericks all his life and led them to a historic NBA ring during the 2010-11 season. In the final, the Mavericks faced the Heat led by LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. While many expected the Heat to defeat the Mavs, Dirk and co pulled off a shocker. He explains his emotions and thought processes during the final in a recent interview.

Dirk Nowitzki on defeating LeBron James

Known for his shooting accuracy and his signature fadeaway shot, Dirk Nowitzki made a name in the NBA. He is widely considered the greatest outside shooting 7-footer. Moreover, he single-handedly led the Dallas Mavericks in an era that consisted of superteams.

In a recent interview, Dirk Nowitzki talks about the historic finals win during the 2010-11 season. The Mavericks faced the Miami Heat and LeBron James and came up on top.

Talking about the finals, Dirk said, ” Well, I think we were a little fortunate and I gotta say that was their first year that they were together. LeBron and Wade and Bosh were still trying to figure out how they play with each other.”

He adds, “ I think there were still some question marks in their own minds about how this is going to work. So I think we snuck in there at the right time. Obviously, they were way more talented than us and we had a group that had great chemistry.

The 2010-11 season deserved a worthy finish, and it got exactly that. The Dallas Mavericks faced the trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh in an exciting affair. 

 

While the Heat got off to a great start by winning game 1, the Mavs took the 2nd game. Miami bounced back in the 3rd game and subsequently lost the 4th. The Mavericks led by Dirk ended the affair once and for all by winning games 5 and 6.

Dirk was declared the finals MVP averaging 26.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. LeBron James, on the other hand, averaged 17.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. Dwyane Wade delivered for the Heat averaging 26.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists.
