‘I Don’t Know’: Larry Bird Refused To Acknowledge Stephen Curry as The Best Shooter

One of the biggest compliments any NBA player can get is to be compared to the likes of another legend. We’ve all heard the comparisons of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan. But there is another NBA player who is privileged enough to be compared to Larry Bird. Bird was one of the greatest shooters the league has ever laid eyes on. However, Stephen Curry is no less. But it seems like Larry isn’t as convinced as the rest of us about that.

Steph’s talent was very well displayed during the All-Star Week last season as well. Not only did Team LeBron, which he was a part of, triumph over Team Kevin Durant by 170-150, but also beat Mike Conley in the three-point contest. Although Steph didn’t have to prove that he was the best shooter in the league, this did the job pretty well.

In fact, this sparked his comparison with the great Larry Bird. Back in 1986, Larry also entered in the three-point contest and his attitude caught everyone’s attention. He did not even remove his warmup jacket and eventually became one out of the two players, including Craig Hodges, to win the contest three times in a row.

This is a guy who is known for his trash-talking skills and he did it during this contest as well. This is the moment of the famous line, “So who’s coming second tonight?”. Yet, unlike all of us, he doesn’t seem too convinced about Steph’s skills.

Is Larry Bird not too fond of Stephen Curry and his shooting?

On the Dan Patrick Show, Larry was asked if he sees Steph as the top shooter in the league. His response was quite disappointing for his fans as he said, “I don’t know about that… Chris Mullin was pretty good.”

However, when Dan made his question more specific and asked if he could be the best deep shooter in the NBA, Bird’s answer changed. “Yeah, I’d say he is right there,” he stated.

However, Bird added some more names to the list like Mark Price, and even included himself in the conversation. Of course, Larry is a legend for a reason, and Curry still has many years to go in the league before he can even reach that level. But it is safe to say that it won’t be surprising at all if he gets there.
