Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets had high hopes for the new season. But so far it has been nothing less than a disaster. It is not just having a losing record, although that is a part of it. It has been the drama and controversies surrounding the Nets off the court this season. And if that weren’t enough, it seems as if the Philadelphia 76ers got the better half of the Ben Simmons-James Harden trade this offseason. Irving has certainly been a distraction for the team.

Instead of making big plays for his team on the floor, the seven-time All-Star is serving his suspension period along with fulfilling the demands of the management. This has had a clear impact on the Nets this season. The team has really missed his production on the floor.

Kevin Durant could not understand the criticism of his leadership

With the absence of Kyrie Irving, all the offensive load has fallen on the shoulders of Kevin Durant. Recently, Durant sat down with Bleacher Report for an exclusive interview. He talked about multiple things, involving the Kyrie Irving drama as well. And what ticked off Durant was the doubt cast on his leadership skills.

Durant said, “I’m not a leader? What the f–k does that mean? A lot of people say I’m not a leader because I didn’t tell Kyrie to get vaccinated. Come on. Or I didn’t condemn Kyrie for leaving the team, going out and living his life.”

“I’m not about to tell a grown-a– man what he can and can’t do with his own life and dissect his views or how he thinks about s–t,” he added.

The interview took place after the Brooklyn Nets suffered a 32-point blowout loss to the Sacramento Kings in their last matchup. Kevin Durant may or may not be a leader in the locker room but he certainly is one on the floor.

KD has been the lifeline for the Nets this season. He is averaging 30.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG, and 5.3 APG with a true shooting percentage of 65.1%. He is clearly doing everything in his power on the floor to keep the team as competitive as possible. At 34 years, Durant is still playing at a high level. But unfortunately, that has not translated into wins.
