Kevin Durant, Ja Morant and NBA World Mock Controversial Call on Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum

Who can forget Tim Duncan’s infamous technical foul? His crime? Laughing on the bench. A similar technical foul was called during tonight’s game between the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder. The referee’s call has pricked NBA players including Kevin Durant and Ja Morant.

Kevin Durant reacted on Twitter that it was the “worst tech” he had seen in the league for a while. He added that the call made him laugh. Ja Morant responded to the thread and tweeted a laughing emoji with the caption “Nah for real“.

During the second quarter, Jayson Tatum got called for a technical foul. But what did Tatum do? He clapped. Even he was visibly confused and surprised at the call.

Before this, he pushed Aleksej Pokusevski into Derrick White to steal the ball. For this, Tatum was called for a foul. In response to the foul, Tatum clapped with minor frustration. The referee issued a technical foul on the 3x All-Star. Among shocked spectators and players, OKC got a free throw.

What constitutes a technical foul? Anything that the player on the court or on the bench that violates conduct and could be detrimental to the game can be described as a technical foul. Of course, the referee makes the final call on the court.

Is Kevin Durant justified in his reaction?

Technical fouls can be called for many things including, but not limited to deliberately delaying the game, and playing when they are not on the “active list” and so on and so forth.

Fans went berserk over this bizarre call. They joked that Tatum probably got the call because he clapped too loud. Others declared it the “worst call in NBA history”. And few demanded that it is time that the league fined the refs for such poor judgment.
