The Kyrie Irving saga is taking a major turn. The Brooklyn Nets star is set to leave the franchise according to multiple rumors with the Los Angeles Lakers being one of his suitors.
Interestingly enough, with all the rumors surrounding Kyrie, a fan on Twitter unearthed an old promise made by Kyrie. After the Nets failed to make any major impact, he made a promise to Kevin Durant.
Irving said, “There’s no way I’m leaving my man no. 7 anywhere.” The number 7 in question is, you guessed it right, Kevin Durant. Moreover, this is not the first time Irving has made such a promise.

During his time with the Boston Celtics, the fans expected their star man to stay in the franchise. He even went on to say, “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here next summer.” However, he joined Durant and James Harden in the Brooklyn Nets shortly after this promise.

The Brooklyn Nets once boasted of having one of the most talented rosters in the league. With stars like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden, big things were expected. However, Harden joined the Philadelphia 76ers and the Nets’ downfall began.
The team struggled to make it into the playoffs and they faced the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2021-22 season playoffs. Boston advanced to the second round of the playoffs winning the series 4-0.

With his departure looking imminent, this marks the end of Kyrie’s controversial yet brilliant time in the Nets. In his 2 seasons with the team, Irving averages 24.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.4 rebounds.
Moreover, he formed a great duo with Kevin Durant. Irving recorded 26.1 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in 44 games with KD.
