“If you are looking at this raw on paper, he could wait out this year and then sign a whole new brand, new contract next summer and actually guarantee himself a lot more money similar to what Kawhi Leonard just did with the Clippers and that would make sense in straight ledger terms,” said Windhorst.
He also added that the Nets will look to extend his contract to a max extension, otherwise it would be a risk for them to offer a new bumper contract when he enters free agency. It makes complete sense for them to give him a contract, considering how important he is to the team.

After winning the NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Irving left the franchise for Boston to start a new project. However, things didn’t go as planned, and it didn’t work out for him there. After that, the point guard came to Brooklyn to try his luck with the Nets. Safe to say, he has done pretty well.
In his two years with the franchise, Irving has averaged 27 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. With an effective field goal percentage of 56.7, he is important for the Nets’ offense to run.
The player is in his prime right now, and with KD and Harden on the team, the Brooklyn Nets have a chance to finally land the NBA title.
