The Kyrie Irving trade situation has everyone on their toes. The entire NBA and the fanbase is glued to their screens as they wait for a trade involving Irving. The Nets have removed Kyrie from their social and promotions as well. It appears that the Nets are not ready to give up on Kevin Durant, who still has a few years left on his contract. Any Kyrie trade that is about to come will occur after the Nets figure out their situation with Durant.

The Nets are in no hurry to trade either star. Kyrie has opted into his $37 million player option. He is still contracted to play for the Nets, but the franchise is ready to move on from the guard. Kyrie refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. This was against the New York mandate, and thus he was not able to play a majority of games in the last two seasons.

The 4-0 first-round sweep in the 2021-22 playoffs was the final nail in the coffin for the Nets and probably motivated them to not offer Kyrie a max contract. Kyrie then requested the Nets to look for suitors for him. Kyrie named the Clippers, the Lakers, the Knicks, and the Mavericks on his preferred list of teams.

In recent developments, analysts believe the Lakers may be the only team on his radar now. Kyrie admitted to being in the wrong in his split from LeBron. It appears that a reunion is on the cards for the two. Nets are yet unhappy with offers that the Lakers have presented. A three-team deal is on the docket as the Lakers do not have enough assets for Kyrie. Apparently, NBA media outlets say that a multi-team trade deal involving Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Toronto may be around the corner

LeBron James and the Lakers fight to get Kyrie Irving.

The Nets are unwilling to take the extra $11 million load from Westbrook’s contract. A trade involving Spurs and Westbrook can also be a route that the Lakers take. It has been suggested by FoxSports that the Lakers could acquire Irving from the Nets and either Doug McDermott or Josh Richardson from San Antonio in exchange for Westbrook, draft picks, and another player like Kendrick Nunn or Talen Horton Tucker.

The Nets would establish a trade exception equivalent to Irving’s first-year payroll, which in this case would be $36.9 million, by sending Irving to the Lakers and receiving little to nothing in return in the form of another player’s salary. The GMs of Toronto, Brooklyn, and Lakers: Rob Pelinka, Sean Marks, and Masai Ujiri were spotted having an intense discussion too.
