REPORTS: Have The Boston Celtics Decided To Break Their Big Three?

The season for Boston Celtics hasn’t gone according to plan. With Brown returning from injury, they hoped that he would mesh well with Jayson Tatum. However, they are currently ninth in the East and are behind both the Wizards and the Cavaliers. They have struggled offensively and have won most of their game because of their defense. They rank 22nd in the league for assists in-game as both Tatum and Brown are ball-dominant players.
The Celtics are apparently looking to move on Marcus Smart. Smart is in his eighth season with the Celtics after being drafted sixth overall by the team in 2014. He is averaging 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists for Boston this season. Smart is one the best defenders in the league and he is also a great passer. Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Celtics are looking to see what they can get for Smart and Schroder.

Will Celtics break up their Big Three?
Even though they have the two premier wings in Brown and Tatum, the Celtics have struggled to score consistently. Brown is posting 24.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game this season, while Tatum is averaging 25.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. Both of them are excellent scorers, but they struggle to create offense for others. Their usage percentages being pretty high means that they don’t pass the ball that much.
With the Celtics hesitant to move both Tatum and Brown, Smart would be the most viable option. He is one of the league’s best 3 and D players. A lot of teams could use a player like Smart and they can offer enticing deals to the Celtics. With the trade deadline approaching, the Celtics will have a decision to make as they look to remain in playoff contention.
