In order to try to stop Shaq, the rest of the league adopted the ‘Hack-a-Shaq’ technique, where they would intentionally foul Shaq to send him to the free-throw line. So the idea is that unless Shaq was fouled, he couldn’t be stopped from getting his points. But even the Hack-a-Shaq strategy couldn’t stop Shaq from dominating the rest of the league. It just slowed him down.
