Stephen Curry was recently awarded the 2022 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Award. The four-time NBA champ has extended his contributions beyond the court, making him an influential athlete in the nation. However, a great level of attention could sometimes result in unfortunate situations for the athletes and their families. Back in 2019, Stephen Curry fearlessly addressed the ‘stupid’ Toronto Raptors fans after a horrific incident that put his family at risk during the championship Finals.

The Golden State Warriors made their fifth consecutive finals appearance, facing the Raptors in 2019. Toronto started off the series well with a 3-1 lead as the Warriors traveled to Canada for Game 5. The defending champions Warriors were in a tough situation during their shot at a potential three-peat. However, a horrific incident involving Stephen Curry’s family before Game 5 led the Warriors superstar to call out the Raptors fans.

Curry reckoned that it was difficult to avoid such reactions after being at the center stage for five years. He pointed out that it was pretty common for fans to try to leave a mark on the series in some way, predominantly on social media.

However, the Warriors star also ended up making a critical remark towards the Raptors fans. He stated“I think it’s kind of stupid, to be honest, in terms of people camping outside our hotel just to yell expletives at either us or our family members or whatever the case is.”

Moreover, Stephen Curry sent a strong message after a close win in Game 5 that such behaviors do not affect him and his team.

The Golden State Warriors were making their fifth Finals appearance in the NBA, aiming for a three-peat. However, the Raptors came hard early at the Warriors, clinching three wins in the first four games. Meanwhile, the Warriors played their do-or-die Game 5 at Scotiabank Arena, the home of the Toronto Raptors.

The Duns suffered an early setback when Kevin Durant left the court due to an Achilles injury. The scoring responsibility came to Stephen Curry, who secured 31 points with eight rebounds and seven assists. Luckily for Curry, Klay Thompson also contributed 26 crucial points in a close game.
