Blown Away by a Young Kobe Bryant’s Prowess, Here’s How One School Trip Sealed the Deal for 23YO NBA Star

There are a few players in NBA history who have changed the game for the better. Five-time champion Kobe Bryant was one of them. He will be remembered by the basketball world for eternity. A recently drafted NBA youngster was seen elaborating how he got his first name and the Mamba might have something to do with it.

Kobe Bryant has done an awful lot throughout the course of his career in the NBA. He’s one of the very few who has scored over 30,000 points in the NBA. Apart from winning five NBA titles he also won an MVP accolade in the league. He’s in the debate for being the greatest in the Lakers franchise. It was interesting to hear how a school trip sealed the deal for a young basketball starlet and it has the involvement of the iconic Lakers star.

Kobe Brown was picked as the first-round pick in the NBA draft this season by the Los Angeles Clippers. He showed flashes of brilliance in the ongoing summer league as he scored a massive 35 points.

In an interview, he opened up about how he was named after the late great Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Brown said, “My dad, he was my high school coach. Been my coach for years. And Kobe Bryant’s father was recruiting one of his players at LaSalle. And he took him down there on a visit. And my dad went with Kobe’s dad at one of his high school games. And he saw him play and saw how Kobe was and he told him he just like, If I ever have a son I’ma name after Kobe.”

Turns out Kobe Brown’s father was so impressed by young Kobe Bryant that he decided to name his son after the NBA Hall of Famer.

Joel Embiid misses Kobe Bryant

Philadelphia great Joel Embiid has often stated the impact of Kobe Bryant on his career. He also revealed that Kobe’s passing away bothered him a bit too much. Joel Embiid was asked if he has been back to Cameroon to which he replied, “I haven’t been back since Kobe. Which is unfortunate, but before that I used to go back.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Embiid will ever be as great as the five-time champion Kobe Bryant.
