Bets are coming in, and anticipation is rising as July 20 approaches closer. The Jake Paul and Mike Tyson debate has been a hot topic of discussion recently. While some have their money placed on Mike Tyson, some are concerned about the age factor involved. Meanwhile, Shaquille O’Neal has a bit of both going on.

Appearing on The Big Podcast with Shaq, the 4x NBA champion faced the question of whether Mike Tyson could knock out Jake Paul. “I know he can, of course he can,” Shaq replied. However, Shaq also reminded the other two members of the podcast, Bert Kreischer and Adam Lefkoe, of the term “father time”.

The term is basically a reference to the fact that no athlete, in any sport, can completely escape the effects of aging. Whether it be the effects on his body or the ability to perform at peak level. Shaquille O’Neal specifically highlighted that he is not being negative. But he stated that if things were any different in reality, even he would be playing right now. It is worth mentioning that Mike Tyson will be 58 at the time of his fight. Meanwhile, Jake Paul will be 27 years of age.

The age difference between the two fighters at the time of the fight will be around 31 years. So it is to be seen if the deciding factor will be the age gap or the experience gap. Notably, Tyson has 58 professional fights to his name, while Jake has an experience of only 10 fights so far.

However, the age difference is not just associated with the outcome of the fight, but also with the risks involved for Mike. In fact, a senior lecturer in medicine at Anglia Ruskin, Dr. Stephen Hughes, has in a way warned the 57-year-old man against the health risks associated with this fight.

“A subdural haematoma can occur. In this condition, shearing forces cause tearing of bridging veins between the brain and blood vessels within the brain coverings, or meninges. Bleeding from these torn veins causes a collection of blood that presses on the brain. This causes confusion, loss of consciousness, neurological disability and, in some cases, death,” Hughes wrote for The Conversationist. He also highlighted that people in their old age are at higher risk as they tend to lose brain volume.
