The NBA has not only dominated the sports world, but it has also been making its mark in the video games industry for quite some time. The NBA 2K series, that have been releasing every year since 1999, has entertained fans of the sport for over two decades.

A recent leak by a Twitter handle showcases details for the upcoming game in the series. The leak, which seems to have brought back NBA Legend Kobe Bryant in the limelight, has also left fans in an anguish state over a separate issue.

What are the NBA 2K Video Games?

The NBA 2K Video game series are a set of basketball simulation games. Releasing every year since 1999, each game improves upon it’s predecessors. It keeps in touch with the different rosters of NBA teams and makes changes per game. Along with the rosters, graphics and gameplay mechanics are improved with each game as well.

The series was originally being published by the Japanese company ‘Sega’. It was taken over after six games by 2k Sports, a sub division of Take-Two Interactive. Take Two has faced two lawsuits in the past over the way it recreated the tattoos on NBA players in the game series. The first case was dismissed by the judge, while the tatoo artist who filed the lawsuit in the second case was granted permission to proceed with a copyright lawsuit.

The NBA 2K series is known for its realistic portrayal of basketball through objectives that fall in line with the rules of basketball and a presentation format that is similar to the actual games. It has an in-depth career mode called MyCareer that tracks the progress of the player’s custom-created character. The games contain online multiplayer modes as well.

Fans react to a leak regarding the next NBA 2K game

‘Follow 2Kintel’, a Twitter handle with over 2800+ followers, recently released a leak highlighting the covers for the upcoming ‘NBA2K24’ video game. According to the leak, former Los Angeles Lakers player Kobe Bryant will become the cover icon for the game’s Legendary Edition.

The leak contains two separate cover images. Both images raise speculation that the game will have two different versions – the Kobe Bryant Edition and the Black Mamba Edition. While 2K Sports hasn’t officially announced the release date yet, predictions place it at around early September of this year.

This is not the first time that Kobe Bryant will be the main athlete to be featured on the cover art. The player had earlier been featured in ‘NBA 2K10’, which was released in 2009. The main cover was chosen after fans were given a choice between four images and asked to vote for their favorite one.

The leak has generated criticism from fans over it’s cover art. One user commented, “if this is real they could do better bro wtf.” Another Twitter user expressed his disappointment with the words, “Why they always go for these picart looking a** covers.”

Most of the positive reactions were towards the fact that the Black Mamba is being featured on the cover. The fans were glad to see that the player is being remembered 3 years after his unfortunate demise.

While the cover art may not have lived to people’s expectations, it’s important to remember that they are not officially confirmed. The fans will just have to wait and watch to see if the leak really is true or not.
