‘I was Never Offered a Deal’: Dwight Howard Makes a Surprising Revelation About His Situation with Los Angeles Lakers

Dwight Howard is taking his talents to the city of brotherly love. After helping the Lakers to the NBA Title, the Philadelphia 76ers will hope for the same with him. However, it was surprising when he left Los Angeles. Why would you want to break up a championship-winning team? Divulging details on why he came to Philadelphia, Howard said:
“I was never offered a deal from the Lakers. Once Philly called, and I talked to Doc, and he already told me he wanted me on the team, I was super excited. Philly is a team that I’ve been watching and competing against for a couple of years. I’ve always thought they had the talent to be the best team in the NBA.”
Maybe it is understandable from the perspective of the Lakers‘ front office. They let Dwight leave and got an upgrade in Montrezl Harrell. Signing Marc Gasol was another cherry on top. One of them is a beast inside the paint, the other a 3-point shooter and a leader in defense.

He said, “I was happy that I had a chance to go back to LA to fulfill the promise that we made of winning a championship. But I’m even more excited to come to Philly and help this team get over the top.”
The former Orlando Magic center is looking to be a leader in this team. On the players he wants to help develop in the team, he said, “Looking at a guy like Joel (Embiid) who is blossoming into a real superstar and also Ben Simmons, and just having that opportunity to kind of be able to talk to both of those guys and be a great example for them.”

One can only hope that Howard will continue to be a positive influence on the team and that his tenure there is more akin to his time in LA than his tumultuous spell in Houston.
