After the reports of his retirement, the rumors of him going on a political route have further intensified. For a long time, there have been rumors of Bruce Pearl entering the world of politics after coaching. Especially with Alabama’s Senate seat soon to be vacant, there were reports that Bruce had even met with Republican representatives. However, a couple of weeks ago, he seemed unlikely to take up a career in politics after coaching. In an interview a couple of weeks ago, Bruce Pearl had given a very diplomatic answer. He said, “I have not answered the question because I’ve never announced I was running for Senate, have I? So, how do you answer the question whether you are or whether you aren’t because I never said I was.”
He then proceeded to say that running for Senate was indeed something that he had considered. But at the time, he said that for now, he just worries about the team’s practice for the fast-approaching season. But now, with the sudden announcement, the rumor mill is sure to start cooking again. If he were to run for Senate, he wouldn’t be the first Auburn Tigers’ head coach to step into politics after their coaching stint was done. Former Auburn football coach and incumbent U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville also capitalized on his popularity as a former coach to win one of two Alabama Senate seats in 2021.
